What is activated charcoal powder?
Activated charcoal powder is a fine black powder, and is derived from grinding coconut shells. It is a form of charcoal that’s been treated to have an incredibly high amount of surface area.
It is processed in high temperatures up to 1000 degrees and then purified with steam to remove any contaminants, resulting in activated carbon also known as activated charcoal.
What is charcoal powder used for?
Activated charcoal powder is often used in cosmetic products like cleansers, acne treatments, soaps, face masks, body scrubs and natural deodorants.
Activated carbon is used in skincare products to remove blemishes, excess oil, toxins and impurities from clogged pores.
It is suitable for all skin types, especially oily skin and acne prone skin. Charcoal powder is also popular as a natural black colourant in soaps, bath bombs and masks.
When used in soap making, charcoal powder should be added at trace. It is recommended to use about 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoon per pound of soap to create a grey or black coloured soap bar.
