What is Comfrey Oil?

Comfrey oil is a herb native to Europe and Asia and is golden yellow to green in colour. It's made by infusing the leaves and roots of a comfrey plant with a carrier oil.

Medicinal plants, like symphytum officinale, were traditionally used for their healing benefits.

The comfrey root and comfrey leaf were used in natural medicines and remedies. It was believed the comfrey leaves and root helped to heal muscle sprains, open wounds on skin, bruises, burns, joint pain and inflammation.

Today, the comfrey plant is made into a liquid oil or comfrey root extract. Herbal oils are used in many ointments and creams for its moisturising and healing properties.

  1. Melt the shea butter in the microwave or in a bowl over boiling water.

  2. Once fully melted, mix in the comfrey oil and jojoba oil until combined.

  3. Remove from the heat and leave to cool in the fridge.

  4. Once the mixture is starting to set, whisk for 5 - 10 minutes. This should create a creamy consistency.

  5. Now apply your skin treatment in small amounts!

Make your own Comfrey Massage Oil

To make a massage oil with herbal oils, we recommend blending a few drops of essential oils to the comfrey oil.

For a balancing and calming massage oil, dilute 10ml clary sage essential oil into 1L of comfrey oil.

For a cooling and refreshing massage oil, dilute 10ml peppermint essential oil into 1L of comfrey oil.
