What is Organic Lavender Oil?

Our lavender oil (also known as lavandula angustifolia) is extracted through steam distillation from the flowers of organically grown lavender plants. The distilled oil has a light floral aroma and is a pale green to yellow colour.

It is extremely popular in cosmetics, perfumes and aromatherapy. Our organic lavender is certified organic by the Soil Association. We are inspected annually to make sure we comply with their strict regulations.

You can find the technical documents here.

What is Lavender Used For?

Our steam distilled lavender is often used in cosmetics and perfumes for its familiar floral aroma and to add its own benefits, making it a great choice for use any day . It is widely used at bed time to induce sleep, providing a gentle and soothing experience. Just simply diffuse it in your room for a calming effect.

It is used in diffusers and aromatherapy for its mood lifting, relaxation and sleep benefits. It is also suitable to be mixed with ingredients like carrier oils and butters to make body butters, creams, moisturisers and body sprays.

There are also claims that it has anti inflammatory properties, can treat sunburn and relax muscles. However, there are not enough studies to back these claims.

Origin & History

Lavender is native to the Mediterranean region, the Middle East and parts of Africa and Asia. It is thought to have been discovered around 2500 years ago. Traces of lavender were found in ancient Egypt and ancient Rome.

Traditionally, it was used for perfumery purposes, in bath water, medicine and for embalming practices.

A french chemist in the 1930s, René-Maurice Gattefossé, is said to have discovered its ability to treat burns. His hand was burned in his laboratory and the essential oil was used to help treat it. He was so surprised by the oils quick healing process, that he published a book, “Aromathérapie: Les Huiles Essentielles, Hormones Végétales,”

Today, lavender is one of the most popular and recognisable essential oils. It is used to help relax and soothe the mind in aromatherapy. It is also used in the cosmetics industry for its distinctive aroma.

How to Store Your Essential Oils

It should be stored in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. This helps to stop the oil from degrading overtime and to help prolong the quality. Make sure to keep essential oils out of reach of children.

Safety Precautions

We do not recommend applying essential oils directly as this could cause inflammation and irritation, especially for sensitive skin.

They can be used in skincare products, however they must be diluted by adding a few drops to a carrier oil.

It is not suitable for consumption, and please consult a doctor before use in pregnancy. Here's a quick tip, we recommend doing a patch test with the dilute oil to check for sensitive skin or irritation to the oil.
