What is ucuuba butter?

Ucuuba butter is a natural butter pressed from the seeds of the ucuuba tree. It is a hard but dry consistency butter and is light brown in colour with a nutty aroma. Our ucuuba butter is unrefined, with a high melting point of 53°C.

It is native to Central and South America and grows in the floodplains and in tropical areas. Our virgin ucuuba butter is unrefined and produced through sustainable methods. The ucuuba seeds are collected from their natural wild habitat.

What is ucuuba butter used for?

Ucuuba butter is often used in cosmetic products like lip balms, creams, shampoo bars, soaps, lotions and hair conditioners. It is a great ingredient for recipes intended for dry or irritated skin as the butter is rich in fatty acids that moisturise and soften the skin.

Ucuuba butter is also a suitable option for mature skin types, it can help the skin to retain moisture and smoothens out the complexion. Ucuuba butter helps to maintain healthy skin, however it has a high comedogenic rating which means it can clog pores for oily skin or acne prone skin types.

When ucuuba butter is used in cold process soap making, it adds to the conditioning effect of the bar. It also adds some hardness and creaminess to the soap bar, it is an ideal base ingredient in soap making.
