What is sandalwood essential oil?

Sandalwood essential oil is extracted through steam distillation of wood from the East Indian Sandalwood tree. It has an earthy, woody aroma and is golden in colour.

Sandalwood is a large shrub or tree often found in areas with dry clay or sandy soils. The flowers and wood from the plant are harvested for essential oils. It is a highly sought after essential oil and is often referred to as 'liquid gold'.

FAQ's

What is the INCI name for sandalwood essential oil?

The INCI name for sandalwood essential oil is Santalum Album.

Where does our sandalwood oil originate from?

Sandalwood essential oil originates from Australia.

Where we source it from and why?

We source our sandalwood oil from Australia but it is not Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum). It is Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), however the tree is grown in Australia.

We decided to source this oil from Australia due to concerns of sustainability, traceability and purity on the Indian market.

We found that a lot of the Indian sandalwood originating from India has been adulterated which compromises the purity. There was also no guarantee of sustainable practices.

Sandalwood oil is a popular essential oil in aromatherapy as it is said to promote relaxation, mental clarity and reduce stress.

It is used in fragrance and perfumes for its warm woody aroma. It is also used in products like bath salts, massage oil and skin care.
