What is organic tamanu oil?
Tamanu is an evergreen tree, native to Southeast Asia and Polynesia. The tamanu oil is extracted by cold pressing the fruit of the tamanu tree. The carrier oil is brown to yellow in colour and is quite a thick, viscous oil with a strong aroma.
Tamanu oil is rich in essential fatty acids like linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid and palmitic acid. The fatty acids help promote healthy skin and hair.
Our tamanu oil is certified organic by the soil association. We are inspected annually to make sure we comply with their strict regulations.
Tamanu oil for skin
Tamanu oil is highly moisturising and has a low comedogenic rating of 2. This means it is not very likely to clog pores, making it suitable for most skin types including dry skin, sensitive skin, acne prone skin and mature skin.
It is said to have wound healing properties and to reduce help skin irritations. Because of its claims to heal wounds, it is often found in products to soothe nappy rash, reduce acne scars, and reduce stretch marks. However, there is not enough evidence to prove that organic tamanu oil can achieve these claims.
Organic tamanu oil helps keep skin healthy and is extremely moisturising due to the high amount of fatty acids.
