What is tucuma butter?

Tucuma butter is derived from seeds of the tucuma fruit. It is a solid, off white butter with a glossy and silicone like texture. It has a mild but sweet nutty scent.

The tucuma palm tree is native to South America and grows well in tropical climates. Our tucuma butter is refined and sustainably produced as it is wildcrafted. This means the tucuma seeds have been foraged in their natural wild habitat. 

What is tucuma butter used for?

Tucuma butter is often used in cosmetic products such as, lip balms, skin creams, skin balms, soaps, hair masks and moisturisers. It has high levels of lauric, myristic and oleic fatty acids, which help improve overall skin and hair health.

Tucuma butter can be used on most types of skin without clogging pores. However, it has a comedogenic rating of 3, so patch testing is recommended for use on problematic skin or acne prone skin types.

When tucuma butter is used in cold process soap making, it adds to the hardness, cleansing and bubbling of the soap bar.

Tucuma butter is also great for dry or damaged hair as penetrates the hair shaft, helping to restore moisture and silkiness.

Make your own skin treatment with tucuma butter

Ingredients:

• Tucuma butter 500g 

• Organic, extra virgin coconut oil 500g 

• Sweet almond oil 350ml 

• Essential oils (optional)

Method

1. Weigh the tucuma butter and coconut oil in a bowl and melt.

2. Measure the sweet almond oil and add this to the melted butters.

3. Place the mixture in the fridge to cool.

4. Once the mixture has started to set, remove from the fridge.

5. Using an electric whisk, whip the mixture until it becomes a light and fluffy consistency.

6. Now your skin treatment is ready to use!
