What is urea?
Urea is a compound that is naturally found in the body and is also synthesised commercially. It is made from carbon dioxide and ammonia, and the process involves the reaction of these two compounds under high pressure and temperature.
Urea comes in the form of granules, crystals and powder. Our urea comes in in the form of small white granules.
What are urea granules used for?
Urea can be used on all skin types, but it is especially good for very dry skin or sensitive skin types. It acts as a humectant, which attracts and retains skin moisture. It helps to soften skin, support the skin’s natural barrier function and provides protection against irritation.
Not only does urea provide intense hydration, but it also acts as a potent exfoliant, gently sloughing away dead skin cells to even the complexion. By promoting cellular turnover, urea helps to minimise the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and blemishes.
Granular urea is used in skin and hair care products such as creams, lotions, body washes, serums and shampoos.
How to use urea
Urea crystals are soluble in water and should be added during the water phase of your formulation. In order to create a stable and effective product, ensure that the urea is fully dissolved in water before combining it with other ingredients.
We recommend using between 2% and 40% of urea depending on your formulation.
